World

Sending and receiving teams of missionaries and interns from all around the world to partner with the home and city church.

Wales

Gwynfi

Heartland's connection to Gwynfi began unexpectedly in 2016. While visiting Wales, a Heartland team was being guided by Welsh historian David Pike on a tour of sites connected to the Welsh Revival. Along the journey, David took a wrong turn and found himself near Tabor Independent Chapel in Abergwynfi. Realizing the chapel was just around the corner, the team decided to stop and explore.

What seemed like an accidental detour became the beginning of a significant relationship. The team met the chapel's caretaker, who explained that the building had fallen into disrepair and was unsafe for extended visits. However, after some conversation, he allowed the team to step inside briefly. Standing within a place that had once been connected to the spiritual history of the valleys stirred something in the hearts of the team.

Since that first visit, Heartland has returned to what we collectively call Gwynfi, the neighboring communities of Blaengwynfi and Abergwynfi, on numerous occasions. For more than six years, teams have intentionally revisited the area, praying, listening, building relationships, and seeking God's direction for the future of these communities.

In 2023, a significant conversation took place when Liam Graham met with Ben Franks, Mike Thomas, Gary Smith, and Mat Walls to intentionally dream and pray about what God might do in Blaengwynfi. Since then, Mike Thomas, often accompanied by teams from Rumney Chapel, has visited Gwynfi multiple times to serve the community, run outreach events, pray with residents, and encourage local relationships. These visits have helped deepen connections and strengthen a growing sense of shared purpose among ministry partners.

Today, there is a growing conviction among everyone involved that this is a strategic moment for Gwynfi. Rather than simply visiting from the outside, the vision is to partner with those who already live, work, and serve in the community. Together, we hope to see deeper community engagement, renewed hope, and lasting transformation for future generations.

Rumney Chapel

Pastor Liam was born in Cardiff, Wales, and grew up in the community of Llanrumney in East Cardiff. A rough neighborhood that had a lot of difficult challenges. At the age of seventeen, everything changed when he encountered Jesus and came to faith through Rumney Chapel. Rumney Chapel became a place of healing, discipleship, and spiritual growth. Through the influence of faithful leaders and a supportive church family, Liam began to discover God's calling on his life. Today, Heartland maintains a strong partnership with Rumney Chapel and its ministry leaders. Together, we share a desire to see East Cardiff and South Wales reached with the Gospel through evangelism, discipleship, and community engagement. A special part of that partnership has been supporting the ministry of evangelist Mike Thomas, whose work continues to impact communities throughout the region. We have supported Rumney Chapel by sending interns, sometimes for summers, sometimes for years and have seen young leaders be impacted in a similar way to how Liam was. We continue to pray for Rumney's impact in East Cardiff and the surrounding areas as Mike steps into his role more and more as an evangelist and as a mentor to up and coming leaders from around the World.

The Message Trust

What began as a single band taking the good news into Manchester high schools has exploded into a new ministry we never imagined. Today, through Eden, we’re working in tough neighbourhoods, bringing real transformation to communities. We’re bringing hope in prisons, seeing hundreds turning to Jesus each year, whilst also helping keep families fed and sharing the gospel in Community Groceries. We’re pioneering ways of helping ex-offenders get their lives back on track through our ground-breaking enterprise work, and through our creative mission, we’re dreaming of literally millions of young people hearing the good news of Jesus and having an opportunity to respond to it.

Cant i Gymru

100.Cymru means 100 for Wales. Cant i Gymru is a collective of Gospel friends from around Wales and the world, believing God for a fresh wave of missional church planting in Cymru over the next 10 years.

We want to be a generation whose hearts are stirred for the glory of God. We want to be a people of bold, humble faith. We want to rebuild places of God’s presence in the land.

Africa

Anglican Missions Africa

Through one of our missionaries, Heartland has been partnered with evangelists working in several nations in Africa for over 10 years. Through this work we are partnered with Anglican Missions Africa and Rev. Canon Captain Richard Mayabi.

Over the past five years, Anglican Missions Africa (AMA) has trained evangelists and lay leaders across 15 countries, resulting in the planting of 1,800 churches, each with a building and a pastor. More than 500,000 middle and high school students have given their lives to Christ through this work!

AMA has also held large-scale missions in 20 cities, with more than 3,000 people going door-to-door to reach homes and businesses throughout each diocese. These missions include open-air crusades and outreach to government offices and schools, sharing the hope of Jesus throughout local communities.

With 10 full-time evangelists on staff, AMA continues to expand its reach. In 2027, the ministry plans to grow into 30 nations and dedicate new AMA TV and radio stations that will reach audiences throughout Kenya.

This work is made possible through the support and partnership of churches, nonprofits, organizations, and trusts around the world. Heartland Church is grateful to be one of these partners, helping support the spread of the gospel and the growth of local churches across Africa.

Around the world

We send and bless missionaries in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America.
