Shadowment

My shadow cannot breathe,
I hear her say, I hear her say.
I hear her say abandonment, rejectionment
Discardment.
It is, after all, embattle-ment.

“Accept the rules,” she says, she says,
The inner disparager floods the room,
I hear her breathe
abandonment, rejection-ment
Discarded-ment.

Yet, I want to pluck her up
Be still, be still, there is promise yet
And covenant and sacrament,
More real than shadowment, than shadowment…
