It started like any journey
With one decision, one bold step.
Soon I had found my own stride,
Boasting, “I’ve had all the right prep!”
Then the road became bumpy.
I tripped on stones a few times.
These rocks! Where did they come from?
Am I a victim of dastardly crime?”
My knees became bruised and bloody
From a fall or two or three.
Some journey mates stopped alongside
And bandaged me up for free.
Wandering and grumbling, I murmured,
“By now I should surely be there.”
The road stretched on before me.
“There’s no end in sight!” I swear.
Just when I think I can’t stand it,
The Holy One steps into view.
“Where have You been?!” I spew.
He assures me, “I’ve never left you!”
He counsels me, “Take this new path;
It’ll keep you close to My plan.”
“It’s not on my map!” I cry.
“Will I get there in my lifespan?”
Back and forth, we talk it over.
He listens to all my fears.
He lays out a few more details
That would carry me through the years.
As I make the turn, the word,
“Recalculating,” comes to mind.
This journey is made of twists
That end in His heart, now mine.
